Eden Park Renovation

The $2.9 million park rejuvenation is complete. The project will provide more recreational opportunities and increase public access to the popular facility.

Plans for Eden Park

In October of 2018, the City proudly announced a major project to improve and revitalize the facilities at Eden Park. This $2.9 million renovation is now complete! Visitors to the park may now enjoy a new turf field, swimming pool upgrades, new playground facilities, and a refurbished picnic area.

These improvements will provide enhanced recreational opportunities for the citizens of South Wilmington, especially youth, while also helping increase public access to this wonderful City asset.

City Bond Funds Expended on Project: $2.9 million

Total City Bond Funds Expended in FY 2019: $2.7 million

Total City Bond Funds Expended in FY 2018: $144,000

Total City Bond Funds Expended in FY 2017: $58,000

Eden Pool Before

Planned upgrades include:

Painting and re-coating three park pools (five-foot depth, three-foot depth and a baby pool)
Upgrading the pool filtration systems so each pool has its own system
Creating a relaxation area adjacent to the pools so family members can keep watch on their children
Adding an umbrella spray feature to the pool complex

Eden Field Before

Planned upgrades include:

Building a new multi-purpose, synthetic turf, full-size athletic field suitable for the sports of football, soccer, and lacrosse; current athletic field lights and bleachers will remain in place
Re-grading and seeding an existing sports field, which is adjacent to the new turf field, making it available as a practice field or for events such as flag football and rugby
Adding a new athletic field scoreboard
Installing new fencing to border the athletic field

Resurfacing the basketball court, adding new backboards, and removing the current fencing, which prohibits movement of players
