Parks Division
What we are
The City of Ukiah Parks Department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of sixteen parks, Ukiah Municipal Swimming Pool, five sporting areas, five tennis courts, and also provides maintenance for nine parking lots, the city sub stations, Successor Agency properties, former Redevelopment housing properties, the Civic Center, Ukiah Railroad Depot property, Ukiah trail systems including the rail trail, and the School Street planters.

- Replanting of trees and plants in all parks
- Playground maintenance
- Cleans and maintains public facilities located in parks
- Park safety
- Management of department equipment and vehicles
- Maintenance of outdoor recreation facilities including:

Accomplishments
- Renovations at Vinewood Park will include the basketball court, walkways, and picnic area. If funding allows; an addition of a toddler play area. | In Progress | DEPARTMENT/DIVISION COMMENTS: Contract awarded and construction began 5/13/19.
- Develop plans/design for Nokomis Tennis Courts. | In Progress | DEPARTMENT/DIVISION COMMENTS: Staff seeking funding opportunities through grants and/or private donations.
- Purchase a new utility truck. | Completed |
- Refurbish BBQ area and walk-ways at Todd Grove Park. | In Progress | DEPARTMENT/DIVISION COMMENTS: Staff planning a community meeting for suggestions for design of area. There is currently $50,000 in Park Development Funds to begin planning and design of the area.
- Secure time and material contract with contractor for Todd Grove wall. | In Progress | DEPARTMENT/DIVISION COMMENTS: Damages to the wall are repaired. Working with purchasing on securing a possible contract for ongoing maintenance and repairs to the wall, when funds are available.
- Debris Removal from Riverside Park-Riverside Flood Regeneration Project. | In Progress | DEPARTMENT/DIVISION COMMENTS: Melton Design Group Landscape Architecture and Planning group was awarded a bid to begin the project. This is a joint project with Public Works.
Future Objectives
NEAR-TERM
- Vinewood Park continued renovations. DEPARTMENT/DIVISION COMMENTS: Staff seeking grant funds for continued renovations of the park including additional pathways, celebration rings, lighting, playground, irrigation and other safety issues at the park.
- Oak Manor Park renovations. DEPARTMENT/DIVISION COMMENTS: Staff seeking grant funds for renovations of park including new playground equipment, restrooms, irrigation, multi sport use, pickle ball and tennis courts.
- Continued efforts working with volunteer groups to keep our parks herbicide free. DEPARTMENT/DIVISION COMMENTS: Staff and volunteers working together at various parks mulching, weeding and other various projects.
- Removal of building (old Parks Department Office) located at Anton Stadium. DEPARTMENT/DIVISION COMMENTS: In progress.
- Continued development of Riverside Park. DEPARTMENT/DIVISION COMMENTS: Staff has secured funding that will clean debris, hydrology study, light grading and planting.
- Replace pathways at Todd Grove Park. DEPARTMENT/DIVISION COMMENTS: Need to identify funding for this project.
INTERMEDIATE-TERM
- Replace Pool Pump House. DEPARTMENT/DIVISION COMMENTS: CIP 20/21.
- Wagenseller Park. DEPARTMENT/DIVISION COMMENTS: Identify funding and location for a new park in the Wagenseller area.
- Replacement of Todd Grove playground equipment. DEPARTMENT/DIVISION COMMENTS: Prop 68 Per Capita funding.
- Replace irrigation systems at Todd Grove Recreation Area including Todd Grove Park, Anton Stadium, Giorno Field and Loin's Park. DEPARTMENT/DIVISION COMMENTS: Reclaimed/Purple Pipe water system.
- Replacement of irrigation system at Sports Complex. DEPARTMENT/DIVISION COMMENTS: Reclaimed/Purple Pipe water system.
- Install an inclusive play area at Oak Manor Park. DEPARTMENT/DIVISION COMMENTS: Looking for grant funding.
- Install a restroom at Oak Manor Park. DEPARTMENT/DIVISION COMMENTS: Looking for grant funding.
- Observatory Park Strategic Plan. DEPARTMENT/DIVISION COMMENTS: Continued Implementation of the Strategic Plan which includes mobilizing Friends of Observatory Park.
LONG-TERM
- Replacement of irrigation and pathways at McGarvey Park. DEPARTMENT/DIVISION COMMENTS: Pathways are deteriorating and irrigation system needs to be replaced.
- Replacement of restroom roof at sports complex fields.
