Division Overview

The Recreation Department’s main goal is to create community through people, parks, and programs. We oversee the following programs at our Youth Centers, but are always looking to expand to meet current and future community needs:

  • Youth Diversion: Youth Center Coordinators provide youth diversion activities for the local youth to redirect them from other negative influences (drugs, alcohol, skipping school, suicide prevention, etc.)

  • Youth Mentoring: Youth Center Coordinators act as mentors for the youth that attend the centers. Homework assistance is available throughout the school year

  • Life Skills: Youth Center Coordinators offer many opportunities for learning and developing life skills such as: cooking, sewing, knitting, gardening, and many more

  • Healthy Nutrition: Youth Center Coordinators work in partnership with SNAP-ED to provide healthy snacks and meals to the kids as well as teaching them how to prepare them

Allocated Positions by Year

Adopted Budget By Year

* Each department is part of a "Fund". Many times, a department or even a fund may show greater expense then revenues for the current fiscal year. This does not account for money that was not spent in prior years, also known as "beginning fund balance". When creating the annual budget Counties are required by law to adopt a balanced budget, meaning the total expense cannot exceed the sum of revenue plus beginning fund balances.

Top Departmental Concerns

  • Staff retention

  • Program operation during COVID-19

  • Working with an underrepresented group in our community, our youth, in a time when they are dealing with so many stresses in their lives from COVID, to distance learning, to social issues, to suicide, to drugs and alcohol, and so many others. We hope to be able to assist them in getting the resources and help that they may need

Looking Forward- Planning Goals

  • Continue to create and develop new partnerships

  • Expand and improve our programs to meet the needs and demands of our community

  • Continue to apply for grants to improve our infrastructure and program offerings
