City Manager Allocated/Committed Funds

How the City took immediate action to support the community and their employees

Introduction

While many expenses were unknown, the City Manager immediately identified areas in which the City would need to support the community and organization.

The Mayor and Council allocated $2.8 million to those six priorities:

  • Small business assistance webinars and digital marketing
  • Homeless isolation and quarantine housing
  • Support to the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona
  • EMS/public safety call response management
  • Community outreach
  • Employee support

The goal of these priorities is to provide immediate critical support and services.

City Manager Allocated/Committed Funds

Small Business Assistance Webinars and Digital Marketing

Small businesses needed extra support and assistance as retail declined. The City implemented multiple programs to help small businesses adjust, such as digital marketing platforms, live updates, and webinars.

Homeless Isolation and Quarantine Housing

In order to slow the spread of the virus, space for isolation and housing during quarantine is necessary. The Mayor and Council approved funds for appropriate temporary housing options for use by those experiencing homelessness, as well as wash stations and portable toilets.

Support to Southern Arizona Food Bank

As the community need grew, the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona ramped up its services. To support the Food Bank, the City Council approved funding to aid in traffic control, and the City helped coordinate volunteer hours for employees.

EMS/Public Safety Call Response Management

As a critical component of emergency services, the Mayor and Council allocated $151,000 to EMS/Public Safety Call Response Management.

Community Outreach

More so than other times, during times of emergency management communication, and transparency are key to dispersing information and keeping the community informed.

Employee Support

To support employees, the Mayor and Council approved funding for employees who needed options to quarantine or who needed assistance with child care when they needed to report to work.
