VISION AND MISSION:

The vision of the Fleet Maintenance Division is to be recognized as the premier provider of efficient, cost effective, customer driven, municipal fleet management services. The mission is to provide the City of Tampa's operating departments with safe and mission appropriate vehicles and equipment in support of their duties.


GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

  • Maintain average vehicle availability rate of 90%;
  • Transition light duty fleet to 100% sustainable vehicles by 2030;
  • Address City’s deferred equipment backlog with effective vehicle replacement plan; and
  • Collaborate with departments to improve PM compliancy.

CURRENT OPERATIONS AND INITIATIVES:

The division affords City operating department’s two dedicated repair and maintenance facilities where city vehicles and equipment are always first priority. Maintenance activities are provided primarily at the City's central garage complex and the fire equipment maintenance facility. Some repair and preventive maintenance services are performed off-site for customer convenience and economy.


  • Developing city-wide purchasing plan for sustainable vehicles;
  • Upgrade Fleet Information Management System; and
  • Create strategic maintenance plan ensuring vehicle availability to facilitate user departments’ operational readiness.

Preventative Maintenance (PM) Completed by Month


Preventive maintenance (PM) consists of scheduled servicing, inspections, and vehicle repairs to prevent potential problems and maximize vehicle availability. It is used in fleet management to proactively avoid or reduce vehicle breakdowns and is based on time, mileage, engine hours, or gallons of fuel used.

The Fleet Maintenance Division provides vehicle and equipment repair services, fueling, and fleet acquisition and disposal services for the City's 3,000 + vehicles. The Division processes over 15,000 repair orders per year.

Budget Analysis

Revenues for this division are generated by services billed to other City departments.


Personnel Expenses increase from Revised FY2021 is due to increases in salaries, pension contributions, and healthcare costs. Capital Expenses does not reflect General Fund vehicles purchased through a Fleet fund for $3,861,000.
