PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Due to the building’s age and scope of daily use, the current Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) facility is in need of significant repair and updating. Additional space is also necessary for evidence storage, public and employee parking, and anticipated growth. There is very limited parking and meeting space, which hinders on-site interaction between TPD and the community. Current staffing levels occupy existing space with little opportunity for expansion and portable buildings that have been utilized as a stop gap storage measure are beginning to fail.

In 2020, the City Commission unanimously approved the construction of a new Tallahassee Police Department Headquarters facility at the former Northwood Mall site. The former mall complex has since been demolished and the project has completed the infrastructure phase which includes the installation of all underground utilities, a new stormwater pond, roads, lighting, sidewalks, and landscaping. Design and competitive bidding are complete and subcontracts are being awarded by the competitively selected construction manager. The City’s Department of Building Construction is responsible for project management and oversight.
