Quality of Life

Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs Department

Named “Best in America” by the National Recreation and Park Association, the Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs (PRNA) Department operates and maintains approximately 4,000 acres of well-managed parkland, a number of community facilities, and the Animal Service Center. By maintaining a safe, accessible, well-maintained network of parks, recreational facilities, greenways, and trails, PRNA is able to help promote the community's health, wellbeing, comfort and general happiness. Included in the FY25 Capital Improvement Plan, funding has been appropriated to support what will be the City's second Senior Center.

As part of the Strategic Plan, PRNA also looks to enhance the livability and preserve the unique characteristics of neighborhoods and to keep residents and visitors informed about events and attractions in Tallahassee. Some of this is done through the Neighborhood Affairs division of the department, and in particular, the Neighborhood First Plan. Currently, the City has allocated money towards the Griffin Heights neighborhood to help improve of the quality of life.

Projects selected for the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) are selected with the City's strategic plan in mind. The following link will allow you to read through the objectives and initiatives included that help drive the selection process. Quality of Life.
