Sunday Concert Series
EYSO Ensembles Performed at the Library
The St. Charles Public Library invited the public to kick off the holiday season with a concert featuring the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Sterling Brass Trio and the Hanson String Quartet on Sunday, December 5 in the Carnegie Community Room.
These two ensembles are part of the EYSO acclaimed Chamber Music Institute, where the members are selected by competitive audition. Since its beginnings as a small string orchestra in 1976, EYSO has been inspiring a circle of young musicians with rich and meaningful musical experiences. Today, the EYSO comprises nearly 400 students from over 70 area communities.
Adult Outreach Programs
This month, the Adult Outreach team delivered 581 non-circulating and 865 circulating items to patrons and facilities in our community. Also, 29 circulating items were mailed out.
Youth Outreach Programs
This month, Youth Services selected 190 items to support classrooms for 9 teachers in the St. Charles community. Interested teachers can request materials and learn more HERE.
Reading with Rover
Bring your books or select from ours and read aloud for 15 minutes to a
specially-trained therapy dog. This program will inspire children to
discover the joy of reading while developing literacy skills and confidence
in a fun environment.
In December, the Library held the first post-pandemic Reading With Rover program with ten children attending. We expect the program will gain momentum as awareness spreads.
The program was a success on a couple of levels-- not only were the children very positively engaged with the handlers and the dogs, but it was a great chance for them to practice their reading uninterrupted!
