Budget Discussion
The FY 2021 budget as presented is based on Sandpoint Fire continuing to operate as a member of Selkirk Fire & EMS under the current terms of the Joint Powers Agreement. Chief Hopkins is serving as the interim chief of Sandpoint Fire through the end the current fiscal year. The FY 2021 budget does include the salary for a full-time fire chief to be employed by the City of Sandpoint.
The City of Sandpoint, in full partnership with Sagle and Westside Fire Districts, has contracted with Fitch & Associates to conduct a comprehensive fire services operational assessment and feasibility study. The purpose of this study is to develop a clear, data driven business plan assessing the current shared fire services operational structure and consider a variety of other best practice governance and structure models. The final report and recommendations of Fitch & Associates are expected by August 31, 2020. This may impact the current shared structure of fire services and/or the budget categories as presented. It is not anticipated that the overall fire services budget will increase.
