City of Sandpoint
Comprehensive Plan Update
"Imagining Our Future"
A 20 year vision by and for the community, a comprehensive plan guides major decisions such as where and how the city may grow.
"If you don't know where you're going, you might not get there." -Yogi Berra

Why Should You Be Involved?
A Comprehensive Plan is the legal basis for major decisions such as zoning regulations*, answering questions such as:
Where should different housing types be allowed?
Where should a grocery store go? How about a car dealership?
What is most valued about Sandpoint?
What are the major concerns for the future of Sandpoint?
*Zoning Regulations determine for an area what uses are allowed and by what standards such as height limits, setbacks and design standards.
What are the current conditions of Sandpoint?
In order to plan for the future it is important to have accurate and complete data of where we are in the present.
This DRAFT EXISTING CONDITIONS REPORT will eventually be incorporated into the final plan document and is intended to help inform goals, objectives, and future land uses. It contains relevant data summaries about history, housing, demographic and economic data, as well as facilities, utilities, services, natural resources and hazardous areas. Each section tells Sandpoint’s story – from where we’ve been to where we may be headed in the future.

For a Comprehensive Plan to be successful it takes extensive public involvement. Stay tuned for upcoming events, meetings, surveys, listening sessions and more! Thanks to everyone who has participated thus far in shaping our community's future!

Airport Plan Component Adopted!
Thanks to everyone who provided feedback for the update to the Airport Comprehensive Plan Component and subsequent implementation strategies.
At their meeting on Dec. 18th, 2019, the Sandpoint City Council Adopted a new Public Airport Facilities Chapter (Chapter 13) and associated future land use map amendments. The revisions have been incorporated into the current Comprehensive plan.
There is more work to be done, however! Please stay tuned for more opportunities to be involved on a variety of planning and visioning topics, including transportation, economic development, housing and more!
Why Do We Need Another Plan?
1. State Law Requires It!
2. Sets the stage for what can be built where
3. Development decisions are not "on the fly" but made in the context of a broader vision by the community
4. Provides a degree of predictably for property owners, businesses, and residents
