This includes: providing information on the regulations and guidelines that apply to property and projects; reviewing and processing of planning applications; providing assistance on project design and development; processing land use entitlements for private and public development proposals; performing environmental review associated with development proposals; and reviewing plans for compliance with building and fire code compliance and performing building inspections/acceptance.

In addition, Long Range Planning also develops, implements, and/or assists in the creation of special programs and projects such as the Comprehensive Plan Update. The service group is responsible for short term rentals, variances, signage, and ADA compliance efforts.

Budget Discussion

This year's budget includes support of anticipated development and long range planning. Increases from last year are due to an increase in development and anticipate the need for external resources to respond to fluctuating demands in processing permits. The budget presented includes a new 1.0 FTE Building Inspector whose duties will include fire and building code inspections and reviews. This includes business/use permit inspections. There are approximately 700 businesses in Sandpoint City limits that should have at a minimum bi-annual inspections in accordance with best practices.
