The San Benito County Free Library provides the community with lifelong learning opportunities. The library delivers responsive informational, educational, recreational, and cultural library services within a welcoming environment.

Staff

Recent Departmental Accomplishments

  • Secured a “Library on the Move” outreach grant in the amount of $250,000.00.
  • Opened the Library on Sundays, increasing the Library’s availability to seven days a week.
  • Increased partnerships with Health & Human Services and CalWorks program.
  • Greater social media presence on Facebook and Instagram.
  • Secured funding to the purchase of college textbooks for Hollister Gavilan College students.
  • Continued providing daily meals for children 18 and younger as part of partnership with Hollister School District.
  • Increased Library’s online resources offerings, including adding Hoopla and Flipster.
  • Completed Library Feasibility Study and Customer Satisfaction Survey.

Long Range Planning Goals (3-5 years) For Department

  • Using the 2019 Library Feasibility Study and 2019 Library customer satisfaction survey as guides, a new 60,000 square foot Library Resource Center which would incorporate the Law Library, San Benito County Historical Society, and San Benito County Chamber of Commerce. This new facility would also include a multipurpose room, passport office, telecommuting and technology engagement center, wellness center, and a new bookmobile.
