San Benito County

The County of San Benito is located on California’s central coast and is a short driving distance from Silicon Valley, Santa Cruz, and Monterey, a total area of 1,390 square miles (3,600 km2). The County was founded 146 years ago on February 12, 1874. The County is known for the small-town hospitality, abundant agriculture, raising cattle, spectacular outdoor adventures including hiking, biking, golfing, and off-roading provide a wealth of leisure activities. There are two incorporated cities Hollister and San Juan Bautista, along with a few smaller communities like Tres Pinos and Paicines. The County’s population is nearly 61,000. The State of California owns and maintains the Fremont Peak and Hollister Hills Vehicular Recreation areas of the County. The National Park Services manages 26,000 acres of Pinnacles National park composed of jutting volcanic spires, caves, streams, cliffs, and peaks.

Breakdown of Property Taxes Distribution

Proposition 13 limits the basic property tax rate to one percent of the property’s net taxable value. The property tax revenue collected on the basic one percent tax rate is divided among the local governmental agencies in San Benito County. This revenue supports the delivery of essential public services provided to the residents and property owners of San Benito County.
