Division Overview
Each year the California State Library issues grant funding to California public libraries in support of their Adult and Family Literacy Programs. The San Benito County Free Library Adult Literacy Program provides one-on-one tutoring to adults over the age of 18 in the areas of reading skills, test preparation for US citizenship and high school equivalency, job and career preparation, digital literacy, and English language skills. The San Benito County Free Library Family Literacy Program provides support and training to low literacy adults to school preparedness, education achievement, helping children with homework, and communicating with school administrators and teachers to encourage higher literacy rates among families in San Benito County. Through the Literacy Grant Program, the library has been able to help provide books to build home libraries for families and connect them to these literacy programs and resources.
