Division Overview
The Division of the Recorder provides a variety of mandated duties of recording, indexing and maintaining for public access, all documents authorized by law to be recorded in the Grantor/Grantee County records.. This Division also records marriage certificates, files birth and death certificates, indexes these records, and maintains these records for public access.

Recent Departmental Accomplishments
• The Recorder Department successfully implemented a first-of-its-kind service that mitigates fraudulent real estate transfers with a program that notifies property owners when documents have been filed against their property.
Top Departmental Concerns
• The County has deferred maintenance to the Old Courthouse. The asbestos walls and floors prevent staff from addressing county archives. There is a pressing and immediate need to perform nonaesthetic asbestos abatement.
Long Range Planning Goals (3-5 years) For Department
• The Recorder Department will be implementing a robust Restrictive Covenant Program that allows residents to certify and affirm that illegal and racially restrictive covenants are removed from land titles.
• The Recorder Department will undertake a comprehensive study of current charges, resolving conflicts with Government Code Section 54985 for County approved fees.
