Division Overview
Serves the public by establishing a partnership with the community to protect life and property, prevent crime and solve problems. The Operations Division has principle law enforcement jurisdiction in all unincorporated areas of San Benito County covering approximately 1,396 square miles. The Sheriff also provides law enforcement services to the city of San Juan Bautista.

Recent Departmental Accomplishments
- Graduate two new Deputies from our FTO Program who are now solo beat deputies.
- Secured a first-degree murder conviction in a 2017 murder case.
- Implemented a Naloxone (Narcan) program in patrol, leading to saving one life in Santana Ranch.
Top Departmental Concerns
- May have multiple retirements this year and will struggle to fill vacancies with qualified people.
- Employee retention continues to be of concern.
- Securing a contract with a Medical Examiner, as Santa Clara County notified us they may sever our contract in 2022.
Long Range Planning Goals (3-5 years) For Department
- Ability to over-hire to help with staffing shortages.
- Develop a vehicle replacement plan.
- Construct modern briefing/training room.
