(210) Road Fund

Our mission is to construct road, bridge and related infrastructure projects that enhance or expand the County’s network of roads and bridges in order to provide a safe transportation environment for all the traveling public. These road projects are for those locations that are not funded by other County, State or Federal grant or award. Funding sources could include, but is not limited to, the General Fund, Traffic Impact Fund or Enterprise Fund. Projects are identified by the Public Works department, presented to County Management and the Board of Supervisors for approval, and are funded from reserves or specific appropriations in the Budget.

Road Maintenance - The Road Maintenance department is responsible to maintain and make repairs to the County’s network of roads, bridges and other related infrastructure so that the community can operate on them safely. This includes 450 miles of roadways, and more than 70 bridges spread throughout almost 1,400 square miles. Activities include, but are not limited to, pothole patching, grading, weed abatement and replacing signage.

Measure G - Measure G, a transportation sales tax to increase sales taxes by 1 percent to dedicate to road and transportation projects and programs outlined in the County’s 30-Year Transportation Expenditure Plan, was passed by voters on November 6, 2019. Measure G will remain in effect 30 years from the initial year of collection, which began on April 1, 2019. Measure G funds are allocated to the San Benito Council of Government who in turn awards distributions to the County , the City of Hollister and the City of San Juan Bautista.

Senate Bill 1 - SB1 or the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017 was passed on April 6, 2017. The aim was to repair roads, improve traffic safety and expand public transit systems in California. At the time, approximately $5.2 billion per year over the following 10 years was projected to be raised to fund these repairs. California provides funding to counties through monthly allocations. Projects are identified by the Public Works department, presented to County Management and the Board of Supervisors for approval, and submitted to the California Department of Transportation -California Transportation Commission for final approval.
