Division Overview
The Division of the County Clerk provides a variety State mandated duties, which include issuing marriage licenses, filing fictitious business name statements, and withdrawal of partnership statements. This Division also accepts filings for notary bonds, process servers, unlawful detainers, and statements of economic interest (700 Form).

Recent Departmental Accomplishments
• The County Clerk Department completed an imaging project of historic birth records from San Juan Bautista dating back to 1874.
Top Departmental Concerns
• The County has deferred maintenance to the Old Courthouse. The asbestos walls and floors prevent staff from addressing county archives. There is a pressing and immediate need to perform nonaesthetic asbestos abatement.
Long Range Planning Goals (3-5 years) For Department
• The County Clerk Department will implement a robust birth, death, and marriage scanning project to improve vital records service delivery.
• The County Clerk Department will undertake a comprehensive study of current charges, resolving conflicts with Government Code Section 54985 for County approved fees.
