City of Providence
Community Contribution Programs
Welcome to the City of Providence Community Contributions page. Here, you’ll find detailed insights into the support provided by Providence’s four private higher learning institutions — Brown University, Rhode Island School of Design, Providence College, and Johnson & Wales University — through community contributions that support our city and its residents. Those contributions come in addition to the separate direct voluntary payments from each school outlined in the City’s Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) agreement. This site offers transparency with accessible data on the financial impact these contributions have had on the city over the last fiscal year, showcasing one way the institutions demonstrate their commitment to strengthening the Providence community and advancing its development.
As part of an ongoing commitment to supporting Providence’s growth and vitality, Brown University augments its voluntary payments to the city with community contributions that match or exceed its annual payments. Through these contributions, Brown makes a positive and meaningful impact on its home city, supporting priorities such as K-12 education, health, economic development and scholarships for local residents.
