Not all individuals in a city’s population have the same likelihood of involvement in a police incident. For example, when comparing demographic percentages for the population and demographic percentages for crime data, we do not expect the percentages to match. For additional context, census.gov provides demographic information for the City of Phoenix and the Federal Bureau of Investigation Crime Data Explorer provides demographic information for crime.
Note: If a year is not represented in the charts below, there is no reportable data for that year.

The racial demographic breakdown of individuals is provided below broken down by the officer’s race/ethnicity. *To create the simplified race/ethnicity grouping utilized in the charts, individuals with an ethnicity entered as 'Hispanic' are included in the 'Hispanic' category, regardless of the race entered. Individuals with 'Black or African American' entered even if a blend such as Black/ White or American Indian/Black are included in the 'Black or African American' category. Individuals listed as Asian, Pacific Islander, Alaskan Native, American Indian, Other Blend, Etc., or with an unknown race, are grouped in the 'Other' category. Individuals with their race entered as White (that do not have their ethnicity listed as Hispanic) are grouped in the 'White' category.
