Department Description
The Pasco County Corrections Department serves and protects the citizens of Pasco County by providing for the care, custody, and control of legally incarcerated inmates in a safe and secure environment and provides programs for supervised individuals. Primary divisions include Administration, Intake and Release, Operations, Logistics, Professional Development, and Professional Standards.
Core Services
Administration consists of the Office of the Chief and provides command services to each of the department's divisions.
Intake and Release is responsible for the initial intake booking and release of inmates, maintaining inmate records, including secure storage of monies and property, and proper classification of inmates throughout incarceration. The Intake and Release Unit receives court documents and maintains track of sentences for incarcerated persons. Additionally, the unit coordinates the transfer of inmates to/from other facilities and submits DNA to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, as required by Florida State Statutes.
The Operations Division is responsible for the daily oversight of inmates. The Operations Division provides a safe environment for inmates by providing supervision of housing units, maintaining order, and directing inmate activities. This division ensures proper meal service, coordination of medical and mental health treatment with contracted providers and communicates program opportunities to inmates.
The Logistics Division is responsible for receiving and ordering of supplies for Corrections Operations. The unit oversees contracted services related to transportation, food service, inmate phone, visitation, and commissary services. Inmate leisure activities, religious services, educational and vocational programs, as well as re-entry services are coordinated through this division. The division provides inmate training opportunities teaching skills related to maintenance, food service/culinary, laundry and warehouse operations.
Professional Development is responsible for staff training. The Professional Development Division maintains oversight of accreditation and Florida Model Jail Standards, coordinates and develops staff training, and maintains officer certifications with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Professional Standards conducts investigations and inquiries regarding member policy violations, citizen’s or inmate complaints. The unit coordinates with other law enforcement agencies as necessary for criminal investigations. The unit conducts pre-employment investigative interviews assisting Human Resources with conducting background checks of prospective members. This Office works in conjunction with Professional Development and Administration in providing direction for staff training that could positively impact Corrections Operations.
