Council Priorities

Enhance recreational opportunities and community wellness

Providing quality recreational opportunities, communicating more effectively with the public about the options available and working with our partners to promote healthy living are important for the wellbeing of our community. To provide convenient and attractive options for residents, our parks and recreation facilities will be well maintained and provide a wide variety of recreational offerings that appeal to all of our residents.

% of residents that report regular leisure time physical activity

This information is gathered from the resident survey each year and reflects the respondents who report regular physical activity. The respondents to the 2018 survey collectively had very little physical activity or recreational involvement, but otherwise this measure has averaged 67% of the OKC population engaging in some sort of physical activity four of the last five years.

% of residents living within a ½ mile of a recreation facility, trail or park

The spike this year in the percentage is due to new trails and the inclusion of residents who live around parks built by neighborhood developers in-lieu of paying the Parks & Trails Impact Fee.

City county health department wellness score

% of residents satisfied with maintenance of City parks

Despite the impacts of COVID on the budget resulting in the Parks Department lengthening the time between mowing cycles of each park, resident satisfaction with maintenance of City parks has remained consistent this year. The Parks Department hopes to get back to a more frequent mowing cycle this coming spring and understands that this remains one of the top items that residents believe should receive more emphasis over the next two years.

% of residents reporting regular use of an Oklahoma City park or attendance at a park program

COVID has impacted the ability to have playgrounds open this year and the number of programs and leagues that have been offered to residents, but this year’s number is in line with the 74% average for the eight years that this information has been surveyed.
