Under Measure U, the City will construct and/or rehabilitate between 2,200-2,400 affordable housing units over the next four to six years. Part of this process is ensuring these units have the broadband lines to connect to OAK WiFi, which is Oakland’s initiative to provide universally accessible internet access to all City residents. Universal access to reliable internet service is imperative to ensuring equitable connectivity across Oakland. OAK WiFi reaches the underserved and unconnected in our community and adding broadband capacity to new affordable housing units across the City is a critical commitment to equitable service access.
