OVERVIEW
The mission of the North Port Police Department is to provide the community with the highest level of law enforcement and crime prevention possible and to protect life and property; preserve the peace; prevent, reduce, and deter crime and the fear of crime; enforce the law fairly; protect individual rights; provide a safe and secure environment for all citizens. In order to accomplish this mission, the Police Department will aggressively pursue crime prevention, crime suppression, investigative and community-oriented programs. Our mission also includes the creation of partnerships within the community we serve to secure and promote safety for all residents and visitors.
This dashboard features performance goals. Departments set performance goals that support their Core Service Areas. These goals are tracked and measured to ensure high quality service delivery to our residents.

Goal: Cultivate, enhance, and foster trustworthy relationships with the community.
Measure: Maintain the percentage of residents who feel that North Port has remained a safe place to live at 80%.
North Port PD is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all citizens. To ensure residents feel safe, the department conducts follow-up surveys on service level, satisfaction, and feeling of security.
Goal: Protect and serve the public through proactive and effective policing.
Measure: Maintain an average response time for all service calls at 10 minutes.
Response time is a key measure for public safety services; this time is measured from the time the call is received to the time the officer(s) arrives at the scene. NPPD is committed to timely response to calls. The department has a target of 10:00 minutes average response times for all calls and a response time of 4:00 minutes for Priority 1 calls. Priority 1 is the highest priority of call, one that is an immediate threat to life, a felony-in progress call, or a call where a weapon is being used.
Goal: Protect and serve the public through proactive and effective policing.
Measure: Maintain the national average of thirty-two (32) UCR Property Crimes per 1000 residents.
The Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program generates reliable statistics for use in law enforcement. The UCR Program includes data from more than 18,000 law enforcement agencies.
In the UCR Program, property crime includes the offenses of burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson.
Goal: Protect and serve the public through proactive and effective policing.
Measure: Maintain the national average of four (4) UCR Person Crimes per 1000 residents.

In the UCR Program, crimes against persons are those crimes whose victims are always individuals and include rape, murder, assault, etc.
Crime Rate
The Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program generates reliable statistics for use in law enforcement. The UCR Program includes data from more than 18,000 law enforcement agencies.
In 2020, the city of North Port had the lowest crime rate per 100,000 residents among the surrounding cities per the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Crime in Florida uniform crime report.
Traffic Measures
North Port Police Department monitors the number of traffic crashes that involve alcohol, the total number of traffic crashes, and the number of arrests for driving under the influence (DUI).
Goal: Cultivate, enhance, and foster trustworthy relationships with the community.
Measure: Maintain a 75% satisfaction rate of residents who participate in the annual Citizen's Public Safety Academy as it relates to effective methods in developing partnerships with the North Port Police Department.
The Citizens Public Safety Academy (CPSA) is a 13 week program to allow community members insight into the workings of the North Port Police Department and North Port Fire Rescue.
During the CPSA experience, participants will learn about and participate in training, Investigations, fire safety, CPR, firearms, TASER, defensive tactics, fire extinguisher use and fire apparatus deployment.
