Court Security Fund

Fund Description

Established in 1999, the Court Security Fund is used to account for the collection of Court Security Fees. By Texas state law, the governing body of a municipality may, by ordinance, create a municipal court building security fund and require a defendant convicted of a misdemeanor offense to pay a $3 security fee. Money deposited in a municipal court building security fund may be used only for security personnel, services, and items related to buildings that house the operations of municipal courts.

Ending Fund Balance

The ending fund balance went negative in FY 2019 due to the transfer of $75,000 for security improvements to Town Hall. Due to decreasing revenues, the fund has been slow to transition to a positive fund balance.

Revenue Driver

Traffic violations decreased last year because of COVID-19. With few people on the road, fewer traffic violations were issued.
