Animal Control

The Animal Control Department is responsible for the following functions:

  • Animal Code Enforcement
  • Control of Dangerous and/or Vicious Animals
  • Impoundment of Animals Found at-large
  • Wildlife Management

  • Removal of Trapped Varmints
  • Collection of Animal Carcasses
  • Providing Humane Animal Traps for Resident Use

Staffing

This department expenses 35% of the salary of the Animal Control Officer.


The functions of the Animal Control Department are performed by:


  • Animal Control Officer - FTE (35%)
  • Public Works Field Employees (designated & trained)
  • Police Patrol Officers
  • Office Manager

Facilities

Animal shelter space is provided by the Public Works Department at 18900 Upper Bay Road. The facility was rebuilt in 2018 with grant funds from the Petco Foundation after the previous facility was destroyed by Hurricane Harvey.

Vehicles

Public Works Department vehicles are made available for the Animal Control Officer(s) to assist with the collection and transportation of animals.
