NASA Area Management District

The NASA Area Management District (NAMD) was incorporated by the state legislature to promote commercial sustainability by creating a unique sense of place inclusive of residential, retail, commercial, and waterfront development. Its goal is to achieve these things by:

  • Enhancing safety and security
  • Ensuring high-quality infrastructure
  • Expanding awareness of Nassau Bay as a great place to live, work, and play
  • Fostering public/private partnerships
  • Providing distinctive urban design and maintenance

In FY2022 the NASA Area Management District will continue to maintain some of the landscaping and water features located in the district's geographic area. Additionally, the district will maintain their lighting project on NASA Road 1. Due to the destructive forces of the prolonged freeze associated with Winter Storm Uri, City was forced to remove the medjool date palm trees that were central to the NASA Road 1 lighting project. The lighting, however, remains and will be an ongoing discussion point for the district. The district will continue to pay the portion of the FY17 CO issuance related to this project and reimburse the City for the electricity charges associated with the new lighting.

The NASA Area Management District has a completely independent governing board and approves its budget independent of the City Council.

The NASA Area Management District shares its boundaries with TIRZ #1 and the Redevelopment Authority.
