The City of South Padre Island has successfully implemented programs and campaigns to clean up litter, reduce and recycle waste, educate local citizens and beautify the local community.

The Environmental Health Services Department, in conjunction with Republic Services, provides the community a drop off location to recycle household items every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Curbside recycling is also available by subscription. To order, call (956) 546-4357.

Annual E-Waste Recycling

According to Evergreen Environmental, nearly 100% of e-waste is recyclable.Unfortunately, most of the e-waste produced globally is not properly recycled. Proper e-waste recycling recovers many nonrenewable resources and prevents thousands of toxic chemicals from seeping into our soil and water. Chemicals such as lead, cadmium, and mercury found in e-waste are extremely hazardous to our health. The goal for SPI is to provide an opportunity for safe and responsible recycling of obsolete, unused or unwanted electronics.

Monthly Garbage Collection

To help keep SPI Beautiful, the City has crews who walk the Island daily to pick up trash.

Anti-Litter Program

The City provides more than 350 trash receptacles at every bay ending, beach access, throughout the City and the beach.

Always put your trash in a proper container. If one is not available, hold on to your garbage until you find one.

This chart illustrates the number of tickets issued by our Anti-Litter Program representatives to people who have not disposed of their trash properly.
