LISLE LEVEE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
VILLAGE OF LISLE | FISCAL YEAR 2023/2024 BUDGET

SUMMARY
PROJECT TITLE: Lisle Levee Improvement Project
DEPARTMENT: Public Works
START DATE (FY): 05/01/2023
END DATE (FY): 04/30/2024
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This project will acquire the necessary property easements in order to rehabilitate the East Branch of the DuPage River levee between Middleton Avenue and the BNSF railroad tracks. In the 1960’s, a levee was constructed by the State of Illinois along portions of the East Branch of the DuPage River and St. Joseph’s Creek. The levee consists of an earthen berm located at the water's edge, which prevents the overflow onto adjacent land. The existing and fractured ownership of the levee does not allow for comprehensive rehabilitation to be undertaken by the Village as easement rights are not inclusive of all property parcels.
OPERATING IMPACT
The Village will be responsible for future maintenance of the levee including grass mowing and vegetative management.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES / STATUS
This project would acquire the necessary property easements to rehabilitate the Lisle Levee and complete improvements identified in the the 2019 DuPage River Feasibility Report. The United States Army Corps of Engineers is funding $5,224,700 of the project.
