Why We Exist
The Durango-La Plata County Airport team proudly serves our users and community by operating airport facilities in a safe, efficient and sustainable way with a focus on friendly service and local convenience. The Airport Administration division supports this mission through the development and execution of sound policy, strategy and financial management.
Key Functions
What We Do
The Airport Administration division provides overall leadership and direction at the Durango-La Plata County Airport, while also managing budget, personnel and air service development. The airport’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), as well as associated federal and state grant funding, are administered by this division. Contract/lease management, marketing, media/public contact and municipal coordination are also all facilitated by the Administration division.
FY2021 Strategic Accomplishments
- Onboarded two new airlines (Delta and Frontier) serving three nonstop routes.
- Executed CRRSAA and ARPA COVID-19 relief grants totaling $4.8 million.
- Managed airport finances through the COVID-19 pandemic to achieve a projected operating surplus in FY21.
- Completed design for the rehabilitation of Runway 3/21. Facilitated project stakeholder collaboration with the FAA, CDOT, airlines, and community.
- Identified revenue growth opportunities and developed prioritization for implementation.
- Expedited discussions on terminal development timing and funding strategy and revised the airport’s CIP accordingly. Initiated design on Phase I of the project.
FY2021-2022 Our Strategic Initiatives
- Complete the rehabilitation of Runway 3/21 while minimizing project duration and maximizing communication with stakeholders and the community.
- Complete design on Phase I of terminal development.
- Increase total 2022 total passenger traffic to greater than 2019 levels through air service development support and airport marketing initiatives.
- Manage airport finances to achieve an operating margin for FY22 of at least 14%.
- In coordination with the city, facilitate training opportunities for staff about relevant DEI topics.
