The Innovation Technology (IT) Department focuses on providing the best possible technology solutions to keep all Hallandale Beach stakeholders connected and engaged. This Department serves as the primary technology resource for City departments to improve employee productivity and help deliver City services to the community in the most cost-effective and convenient manner.

The IT Department’s mission is to provide responsive first-class Technology Service Delivery for City Stakeholders in an organized and secured manner to sustain the Government needs for the City of Hallandale Beach.

Key Accomplishment

  • Roll out of Barracuda Email Archiver to improve and streamline the Public Record Requests process.
  • Installation of Fire Station Alerting System as required for consistent communication with Broward County.
  • Rolled out Electronic Plan review workstations to streamline Building operations and provide faster service.
  • Replaced antiquated computer equipment for staff – New dell laptops have been issued to staff for efficiency and mobility. Many computers had not been replaced in years, greatly affecting staff’s ability to work with large files and managing data.
  • Replaced antiquated equipment for Police - New rugged Dell laptops have been issued to all road patrol laptops.
  • New Physical Domain Controller. (Decommissioned several older servers).
  • Phone System Upgrade – the phone system routers and phone system servers have been installed. The latest version of the phone system software is now up to date and is supported by Cisco.
  • Employee Cyber Security Training – training was launched to bring awareness and protection from potential email and social engineering scams.
  • Integration of Munis and Energov payment is in progress which will eliminate the labor-intensive process of manually running a batch file to consolidate payments into Munis.
  • The City has been granted the Florida Local Government Cybersecurity Grant, which will provide support to the City's IT department in monitoring network traffic and detecting malicious behavior.


Bolstering Cybersecurity

  • Securing Our ERP System: Implement advanced security measures to protect our Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system against unauthorized access and data breaches.
  • Enhanced Remote Access Security: Strengthen remote access protocols, ensuring secure and efficient operations for off-site employees.
  • Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Implement 2FA across all critical systems to add an extra layer of security against unauthorized access.
  • Network Traffic Monitoring: Deploy state-of-the-art tools for the continuous monitoring of incoming and outgoing network traffic, enabling prompt detection and response to any suspicious activities.

Disaster Recovery Enhancement

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive disaster recovery plan that ensures minimal downtime and rapid restoration of services in the event of a system failure or cyberattack.

Cybersecurity Policies

  • Formulate and enforce robust cybersecurity policies to govern all technology operations and ensure compliance with national and international cybersecurity standards.

Infrastructure Redundancy

  • Invest in infrastructure redundancy to guarantee uninterrupted services and operations, particularly for critical systems and networks.

Assisting Other Departments with Innovation

  • Establish a collaborative framework to assist other city departments in adopting innovative technologies and practices, thereby enhancing overall operational efficiency and service delivery.

Network IP Address Redesign

  • Undertake a comprehensive overhaul of network IP addresses at main city locations to enhance network efficiency, security, and manageability.

Completion of Commission Chambers AV Upgrade

  • Finalize the upgrade of the audiovisual (AV) system in the commission chambers, ensuring state-of-the-art facilities for effective communication and public engagement during city meetings and events.

Implementation Strategy

  • Collaborate with IT and cybersecurity experts to assess current systems and identify areas for improvement.
  • Allocate budget resources efficiently to prioritize high-impact projects.
  • Conduct regular training and awareness programs for staff to ensure adherence to new policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of these goals regularly, making adjustments as needed to align with evolving technological landscapes and city needs.
