PLANNING & COMMUNITY

DEVELOPMENT SERVICES AGENCY

2020-2021 Water Well Information

The Glenn County Planning and Community Development Services Agency is known as the “one stop shop” Permit Center, comprised of the Building, Code Enforcement, Environmental Health, GIS, Planning, Public Transit\ Transportation Administration, and Water Resources departments.

The Environmental Health department is responsible for conducting inspections and issuing permits relating to Food Safety, Water Quality, Recreational Health (such as public pools), Septic Wastewater Systems, Body Art Professional Services, Housing and Code Enforcement and Fire Debris Removal.

The following information is strictly related to water well permitting and water well incident reports.

Well Incident Reports

A collaborative effort between several County departments on tracking well issues takes place through the Well Incident Reporting Tool. This tool combines the Abnormal Groundwater Level Report and Domestic Dry Well Call Sheets used in prior years which allows individuals to report a variety of issues related to their water supply. While reporting has been available for approximately twenty years, it becomes most useful when Glenn County is experiencing drought conditions. The Well Incident Reporting tool may be accessed by clicking on the well photograph below.

Domestic Well Permits

A domestic well is a well primarily used for potable, non-public water supply purposes. Glenn County identifies wells with casings 8 inches or smaller in diameter as domestic wells.

Irrigation Well Permits

An Irrigation, or Agricultural, well is very similar to a well drilled to provide water for a home, but its intended use generally is for irrigating agriculture. Glenn County identifies wells with casings larger than 8 inches in diameter as Irrigation wells.

The following reports the number of irrigation (agricultural) well permits issued per month for the last 12 months.

Comparison of Domestic Well Permits vs. Irrigation Well Permits on a monthly basis.

Replacement Irrigation Well Permits

The following reports the number of replacement irrigation well permits issued per month for the last 12 months.

Well Destructions

Well destruction refers to certain work done to an existing well, the intent of which is to effectively seal the entire well up to the ground surface, in such a manner that each intersected water stratum is sealed and isolated from every other stratum and from surface water.

The following reports the number of well destruction permits issued per month for the last 12 months.
