The Gilpin County Community Center is closed until further notice. Parks and Recreation updates are highlighted below but information may change as the status of county operations changes. At this time, memberships will be credited with the amount of time that the facility is closed. The Youth Enrichment Pass (YEP) and swim lessons will be prorated for a credit, or refunded if requested. Pottery sessions and fitness classes will resume once the facility re-opens.

Youth Programs

The after-school youth camp calendar is posted for April; however, registration is closed at this time until further notice. Summer day camp planning is on-going with a focus now on hiring and training staff, via remote applications. Youth baseball registration is put on hold until further notice and coordination with outside leagues will resume once the county has re-established operations.


Pools are being monitored daily. Staff is preparing for additional lifeguard classes to be ready for summer operating season.

Adult Sports

The adult volleyball season wrapped up before our change in operations. Adult softball is scheduled to start the end of May.

2020 Gilpin County Fair Planning

Staff is continuing to plan and coordinate the county fair, scheduled for July 10th-12th. The committee is working remotely and contracts to secure the rodeo vendor and major attractions are set to go before the Board of County Commissioners in the next 2 weeks.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Parks and Recreation staff is visiting the facility daily, checking the mail and general voicemail box.

Playground Replacement Grant Project

Equipment must be ordered by 3/30, will be delivered by 5/30 and contractor will install by 7/15. Staff is still working with community partners for volunteer projects and seeking sponsorship funds to enhance the project.

Community Groups and Facility Rentals

Those groups who had a reservation in our system have been notified of the closure and will be offered a credit or refund. We will not be accepting applications for facility rentals until further notice.

Website and Social Media Updates

Updating customer user interface so programs and passes are “view only”. Only approved messages from the Sheriff’s Office are being “shared” on GCPR social media outlets. Staff is continually answering emails and social media posts from the public as they come in. Staff is brainstorming ways to use social media and other fitness platforms to engage the community.
