Sanitation Fund
Description
The Sanitation Department oversees a Type 1 Subtitle D sanitary landfill for over 5,500 residential customers, commercial customers, a brush chipping and leaf collection program, and a recycling center that currently collects aluminum, corrugated cardboard, tin, and other metals.
Goals and Objectives
- Serve the citizens of our growing community to the best of our ability with the existing staff
- Remain in compliance with state and federal laws that govern the solid waste industry
In order to meet these goals, we will
- Communicate effectively with our customers and keep in compliance with TCEQ (Texas Commission on Environmental Quality) standards
- Monitor trends in the solid waste and recycling industries
What we accomplished in 2021-2022
- Purchased a new lawn mower
- Expanded our street can program by hiring a dedicated employee and adding more cans to Main Street and side streets
- Accepted more materials at the recycling center (plastics, newspaper, magazines, mixed paper and shredded paper)
What we plan to accomplish in 2022-2023
- Purchase of a new tractor and shredder to better maintain vegetation at landfill facility
- Purchase of a new Utility Terrain Vehicle for Right-of-Way clean up
- Design and construction of Cell #9
- Survey remaining landfill airspace and evaluate rate structure
- Discuss long term plans for landfill facility and recycling center
