Description

The Sanitation Department oversees a Type 1 Subtitle D sanitary landfill for over 5,500 residential customers, commercial customers, a brush chipping and leaf collection program, and a recycling center that currently collects aluminum, corrugated cardboard, tin, and other metals.

Goals and Objectives

  • Serve the citizens of our growing community to the best of our ability with the existing staff
  • Remain in compliance with state and federal laws that govern the solid waste industry

In order to meet these goals, we will

  • Communicate effectively with our customers and keep in compliance with TCEQ (Texas Commission on Environmental Quality) standards
  • Monitor trends in the solid waste and recycling industries

What we accomplished in 2021-2022

  • Purchased a new lawn mower
  • Expanded our street can program by hiring a dedicated employee and adding more cans to Main Street and side streets
  • Accepted more materials at the recycling center (plastics, newspaper, magazines, mixed paper and shredded paper)

What we plan to accomplish in 2022-2023

  • Purchase of a new tractor and shredder to better maintain vegetation at landfill facility
  • Purchase of a new Utility Terrain Vehicle for Right-of-Way clean up
  • Design and construction of Cell #9
  • Survey remaining landfill airspace and evaluate rate structure
