Engineering Department


Description

The Engineering Department serves as the technical advisor and supervisor for the Department of Public Works. The vision of the department is to ensure safe and efficient roadways and infrastructure to serve the needs of the citizens of the City.


Goals and Objectives

  • Provide safe and efficient operation of the Public Works Department to support the citizens of the City
  • Provide technical assistance to the Mayor, City Council, Boards and Commissions, City staff, and the Citizens of Fredericksburg in engineering-related matters

In order to meet these goals, we will

  • Manage the entire Public Works budget
  • Develop administration of Public Works related ordinances, policies, and procedures
  • Develop administration of the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP)
  • Construction management and inspection of all Public Works capital and land development projects
  • Interact with Citizens for all Public Works departments
  • Develop, operate, and maintain the City's Geographic Information System (GIS)
  • Administration of permitting activities for State and Federal regulatory agencies
  • Administration of Floodplain areas
  • Provide survey and engineering support as needed for all City departments and projects
  • Review all site plans, plats, construction plans, drainage studies, and Public Works engineering projects

What we accomplished in 2021-2022

  • Designed and acted as project management of construction of sidewalk improvement projects throughout the City as part of the Sidewalk Improvement Program
  • Oversaw design of short-term transportation operational and safety improvement projects and continued coordination with TxDOT relating to construction.
  • Awarded funding for S. Llano Shared-Use Bridge and E. Ufer St. Sidewalk Project and began design.
  • Awarded funding through Tx Water Development Board Flood Infrastructure Fund for N. Llano Storm Sewer project.
  • Updated GIS database to reflect completed Public Works projects and subdivisions.
  • Completed construction of the HWY 290 East Water Transmission Main project.
  • Completed construction of the Knauth Pump Station Project.
  • Completed the design of the East Main Street Water Rehabilitation project. Construction will begin in fiscal year 2023.
  • Continued reviewing and planning for the future water supply and pressure needs for Boot Ranch Phase 2 with BR engineering staff.
  • Completed the Friendship Lane Sanitary Sewer expansion project utilizing trenchless construction technology, pipe bursting.
  • Developed bid documents, letting and started construction on the 2 inch water and 4 inch sanitary sewer main replacement project. Construction was completed in the area of 400 and 500 blocks of West Centre.
  • Construction administration for the Boot Ranch Lift Station Rehabilitation Project.

What we plan to accomplish in 2022-2023

  • Continue design and construction of city-wide sidewalk improvement program
  • Continue coordinating with TxDOT and Gillespie County regarding transportation improvement projects
  • Complete construction of S. Llano Shared-Use Bridge and E. Ufer St. Sidewalk project
  • Oversee design and construction of various drainage improvement projects to be completed by Stormwater/Vegetation Management Department
  • Review Public Works operations to improve efficiency
  • Oversee design of N. Llano Storm Water Project
  • Oversee construction of East Main Water Rehab Project
  • Complete construction of the Boot Ranch Lift Station Rehab Project
  • Actively participate in Comprehensive Plan effort and update engineering-related development regulations
  • Continue design and construction of 2 inch water and 4 inch wastewater main replacement project
  • Continue to update geographic information system to reflect completion of public improvements
