Public Defender
Mission Statement
It is the function of the Office of the Public Defender to represent, without additional compensation, any person who is determined by the court to be indigent and who is: arrested for or charged with a felony; arrested for or charged with a misdemeanor, a violation of Chapter 316, F. S. which is punishable by imprisonment, a violation of a municipal or county ordinance in county court, in which the defendant faces imprisonment; by petition involuntarily placed (as a mentally ill person), or involuntarily admitted to residential services (as a person with developmental disabilities).
