Waterfront Weekend Seeks Beneficiaries

The Waterfront Weekend committee is currently accepting proposals from local non-profits to be included as one of this year’s major beneficiaries. Last year, the Weekend raised over $32,000 that was split between 12 local organizations. In 2020, no more than 8 organizations will be chosen in order to make the largest impact for the beneficiaries.

The 2019 beneficiaries included: Genesis House, Loma Vista Farm, Mare Island Historic Park Foundation, Midsi Sanchez Foundation, Rebuilding Together Solano County, Spinal Care Injury Active Network, Solano County Fairgrounds, Solutions for At-Risk Youth, Vallejo Community Access Television, Vallejo Community Arts Foundation, Vallejo Senior Center and Vallejo Shakespeare in the Park.

The Vallejo Waterfront Weekend supports all non-profits, but this year the committee is looking specifically for 501(C)3 organizations needing financial assistance to make a large impact on the Vallejo community, whether through the organization or to complete a project. Requirements include active involvement in planning for the 2020 Vallejo Waterfront Weekend event, providing volunteer assistance during the actual event, which is set for October 3 and 4, and the organization must be in the City of Vallejo.

To apply to be a 2020 Beneficiary, please visit www.vallejowaterfrontweekend.com, or call (707) 738-6964 to request a Beneficiary Proposal Form, due by March 31. Beneficiaries will be selected by April 15.

If you are interested in other opportunities for a non-profit to raise money for their organization by conducting individual events at the festival, please contact us at (707) 738-6964 or email [email protected].

Thompson Announces 2020 Congressional Art Competition

Congressman Mike Thompson is accepting submissions for the Fifth Congressional District Art Competition. The art competition is open to all local high school students in Contra Costa, Lake, Napa, Solano, and Sonoma Counties, and the winning piece of art from this district will be displayed at the United States Capitol.

“Our district has so much artistic talent and each year I am honored to highlight the skill of young artists as part of my Fifth Congressional District Art Competition,” said Thompson. “The grand prize winner will have their artwork hung in the halls of the Capitol for an entire year, displaying our district’s talent for visitors from around the world. I hope everyone will submit their art as part of this year’s exciting competition!”

The deadline to submit artwork is Friday, April 17 and can be submitted to one of Congressman Thompson’s offices:
