City Council is committed to financial transparency and public accessibility to the budget in order to gain input early and often in the decision-making process. Thus, the community can advocate with informed and trustworthy facts for empowered civic engagement.
Fate Residents are encouraged to explore the adopted Fiscal Year 2020-2021 budget using OpenGov, a modern budgeting instrument located below. The budget dollars are tied to the five pillars and milestones initiatives set in early 2020 by the City Council during planning meetings.
Users can drill down into the platform to engage in how and where tax dollars are being spent.
Five Pillars and Milestones
The Council was asked to prioritize the big "pillars" toward which they should direct the city. These should span beyond the one year horizon and reach forward toward seven to ten years. They did this in small groups and reported back to the larger group. Led by the facilitator, they reconciled these sets of pillars into one synthesized list.
These are not ranked in terms of importance. They are all considered to be crucial for the fulfillment of their vision. The Council identified 5 Key Pillars for the future and funded some milestone proposals in the current budget.

The following milestones were identified:
- I-30 critical mass
- Downtown expansion
- Business retention and profitability
Safe Community
The following milestones were championed :
- Leader in Community Safety
- Creation of 3, 5, and 10 year plans
- Increase visible patrols
- Concentration on school zone enforcement
- Continue community tours of facilities and other outreach
- Deploy special tasked units to increase community safety
