Data Center Air Conditioning (AC) Units
FISCAL YEAR 2024 BUDGET
SUMMARY
Project Name: Data Center AC Units
Department: Information Technology Department
Start Date: 7/01/2024
End Date: 6/30/2024
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
These funds will be used for the replacement of the AC units in the Information Technology (IT) Data Center. The units are essential to maintain proper temperature levels for the City's on-premises resources that provide critical services including SAP and many departmental and cross departmental systems.
RELATIONSHIP TO comprehensive PLAN:
Chapter 9 : Community Facilities and Services
Goal 1. Efficient Planning for Facilities and Infrastructure
Prioritize efficient construction and maintenance of all community infrastructure and facilities, and ensure that infrastructure capacity is built and maintained in line with growth or declining demand, as appropriate.
Goal 4. Emergency Management
Reduce community, citizen, and employee vulnerability to hazards and improve community resilience in the face of natural and man-made disasters by employing an all-hazards, whole-of government approach to emergency preparedness, and integrating planning, preparedness, response, and recovery efforts.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES / STATUS:
The objective of the project is to replace the old units with new units. Alternatives to purchasing new units include continuing to run the old units however as evidenced by cooling issues we experienced in 2022, we expect to continue having more issues with the existing units. The funding amount allocated is based on the best estimate that we have at this time. It is possible with the product shortages and shipping delays we are seeing with other IT purchases that the new units may be more expensive than anticipated or not be available for some time. It would be beneficial if this project was completed in 2023.
Cost Estimate
Operating Impacts
Operating impacts will be determined in the future. However, continuing delays on the replacement of the existing and failing units may result in the need for additional funding to address on-going issues and potential emergency repairs.
