Project Name: Trail Development & Land Acquisition

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

This fund is used to acquire land and easements from private properties and also to fund construction of nature trails and shared use paths (ADA accessible paved trails) both within existing parks and between parks and schools and neighborhoods. The fund is also used to purchase parkland for general purposes and to match grants from state and federal agencies.


An additional $100,000 is requested in FY 24 for a land acquisition to create a park in the Cedars neighborhood which currently has no public parklands. We have a willing seller for a parcel that we wish to acquire.

Plan for the future and expand current inventory of public park and recreation facilities.

Connect the park system to the community through the development of context- and environmentally sensitive trails and through the effective and appropriate design of park and recreation facilities.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES / STATUS:

Objectives: To implement elements and projects in the City Trails Plan


Status: Various projects are underway and each is moving forward at a reasonable pace.

Operating Impacts

As new parklands are acquired and trails constructed, annual maintenance needs such as mowing, tree work, trash removal, etc. are added to the Department's workload.
