PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

These funds are for the ongoing capital replacement of playground equipment when they arrive at the end of their service life or when they are no longer in substantial compliance with Consumer Product Safety Commission or ASTM playground guidelines. There are 23 playgrounds with 46 composite and numerous free-standing units currently in the system.


The emphasis over the past several years has been to get school sites in compliance. That task is now complete, and the focus is on park properties with some units dating back to fiscal year 2000. The next two school projects scheduled for replacement are the Venable and Burnley-Moran elementary school playgrounds.


On-going maintenance activities are funded in the Parks Division operating budget.

Upgrade existing park and recreation infrastructure to current standards and address the value and uses of natural areas.


Goal 14. Parks and Recreation (Best Practices)

Adopt and maintain customized park and recreation facility standards that support a livable community and perform consistent maintenance on all parks and recreation facilities.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES / STATUS:

Objectives- The continuation of this program is required to minimize liability and remain compliant with current standards and guidelines.


Status - Replacements for Meade and Belmont playground are currently in the construction phase. Venable playground is in the planning stage of the design.
