Mission Statement
The Town Clerk upholds the integrity of the Town’s democratic processes by maintaining and holding an accurate, efficient election. The Town Clerk:
- Maintains official municipal records.
- Administers fair and accurate federal, state, and local elections.
- Oversees the town census, voter registration, and vital records.
- Issues certain licenses and permits.
- Is a Justice of the Peace and a Notary Public.
Accomplishments for FY2022
- Worked as a collective group to hold a record-setting Town Meeting.
- Held a special election with almost 3000 ballots being requested by mail.
- New precinct boundary descriptions accepted by the Local Election District Review Commission (LEDRC).
- In the process of purchasing the new voting tabulators.
- Qualified for re-certification of Certified Massachusetts Municipal Clerk certification.
Goals & Initiatives for FY2023
- Implementing all of the new election related laws for the upcoming September primary and midterm election.
- Preparing for a large primary and state election in 2022.
- Working with CPC to digitize a selection of historic records.
- Potentially working on implementing the new Town Charter.
- Using work-off workers to scan more records for availability on the website.
Budget Highlights
- The budget represents a $48,704 (24.28%) increase over the FY22 budget.
- An increase of $24,250 is provided in election wages. This year the state has extended early voting in person to 14 days, and there was also a minimum wage increase which affects each worker in Elections and Registrars across the board.
- An increase of $1,900 is provided for registrar wages.
- An increase of $4,800 is provided for purchased services.
- An increase of $1,975 is provided for miscellaneous expenses.
- The remaining increase in personnel services reflects contractual obligations and the implementation of the Compensation and Class Study.
