Department Overview

The Board of County Commissioners consists of three individuals elected to serve four-year terms as leaders of the Boulder County government. All three commissioners are elected at-large by the voters of Boulder County and represent the county as a whole.


The Board of County Commissioners directs county programs and approves the county budgets and policies. The Department Head coordinates and is responsible for the Commissioners’ Office staff who conduct the daily business of the Board of County Commissioners. This includes public information and media relations, and crafting the county’s policy and legislative agendas. The records and administration teams handle the board’s Public Meetings, Hearings, and Records & Video Archives. This office also manages the county’s Citizen Advisory Boards & Commissions.

DESCRIPTION OF DIVISIONS AND SERVICES

Administrative Team

The Administrative Team oversees the daily operational needs of the Commissioners’ Office, including but not limited to: administrative support for the Board of County Commissioners; coordinating the Commissioners’ schedules; assisting constituents with general inquiries and e-mail correspondence; coordinating Commissioner Town Halls and other community meetings; processing the office’s accounts payable and accounts receivable invoices; tracking office payroll and budget; managing office supply inventory and ordering; and providing staff support for other events. The Administrative Team also works on various special projects on behalf of the County Commissioners.


Public And Media Relations

The Public Information Officer (PIO) is responsible for creating and maintaining the public interface of the County Commissioners' Office and communicating on behalf of the County Commissioners.


Policy And Legislative Affairs

The Commissioners’ Policy Team works to advance and support key public policy and intergovernmental relations goals for the County Commissioners, engaging with local, regional, state, and federal governmental entities, including the Colorado General Assembly and the U.S. Congress. The Policy Team also works on regulatory matters, specifically with the Colorado Public Utilities Commission and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. In addition, the Policy Team coordinates other local, regional and statewide policy and advocacy work on behalf of Boulder County.


Records Team

The Commissioners’ Records Team handles all issues related to records retention and BOCC hearings including but not limited to: maintaining and providing IT support for live streaming hearings to the public; for both in-person, hybrid, and virtual meetings; coordinating with various Boulder County departments for scheduling and providing proper notice for BOCC hearings; maintaining the Commissioners’ public agenda; retaining records of all hearing items; and processing records requests as needed for county staff and members of the media and the public. The team is also responsible for Advisory Boards and Commissions management.
