The SC General Assembly convened on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 for the second half of a two-year legislative session. House Bill 4431 was introduced during the 2019 legislative session and is continuing to be pursued in the 2020 legislative session. This piece of legislation strips authority from cities and towns to collect a business license by significantly changing how business license is applied and calculated. It also includes standardization components of the business license process. It is currently assigned to a special House Labor, Commerce and Industry Business License Fees Ad Hoc subcommittee. The first hearing was held on Wednesday, January 22, 2020.
