PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

This project would remodel the kitchen area to increase cooking space and storage. The sleeping area would be increased and modern lighting and station alerting devices would be added. Sound dampening in the sleeping area would also be considered. Fire Station 1 is now 30 years old and showing its age in some areas. The apparatus bay doors were failing, and are being replaced in 2022. The training room is inadequate for department wide or regional training. The kitchen area is inadequate and lacks some safety features that are needed in fire stations such as the oven shutting off when tones alert the crews for emergency calls. Sleeping space and apparatus bays are meeting our minimum needs currently but will become inadequate in the near future, particularly if no new Station 3 is constructed.

REcommendation:

Our recommendation is to complete a kitchen and sleeping area remodel should be in 2025 either in conjunction with a Station 3 build or as a stand-alone, more robust, project that would include a larger training room should we choose not to build Station 3.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES / STATUS:

Originally $1,000,000 was placed in 2024 for a complete remodel/additions. This is now revised to Kitchen/sleeping quarter remodel in 2025. Training room addition is currently deleted pending Station 3 decisions. We could consider an improvement in conjunction with a bond for Station 3.
