Transparency and Accountability
As the State’s Chief Investment Officer and Chief Banking Officer, it is important that the Office of the Illinois Treasurer keeps the people of Illinois up-to-date on the state’s public finances and debt obligations. While debt issuance and market timing decisions are the purview of the Governor’s Office of Management and Budget, executive officers, including the Treasurer, have important duties in debt transactions and processing.
Providing added transparency on debt metrics offers the State’s taxpayers, managers, investors, creditors, lawmakers, and other users with important information on the financial position of the State and its overall fiscal health regarding long-term liabilities, obligations, and debt management.
